Rivers Casino has decided to cancel its application for online gambling in Pennsylvania and instead pursue a certificate for sports wagering.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Rivers Casino withdrew its application for online gambling. The casino has also disclosed that it has come up with a different plan.
“Rivers Casino Pittsburgh intends to provide igaming to Western Pennsylvania and the Commonwealth, but we’re taking additional time to explore the various options for doing so,” the casino’s Jack Horner said.
”Rivers is actively pursuing a sports wagering certificate to offer both land-based and mobile sports betting,” Horner added.
The move has enabled the Pennsylvania Gaming Board to offer three more interactive gaming certificates that were supposed to be for Rivers.
The casino’s application contained requests for peer-to-peer interactive gaming, non-peer-to-peer simulating slot machines, and non-peer-to-peer simulating banked table games played against the house, according to InterGame.
Since three more certificates have become available, a total of 10 certificates for igaming are now up for grabs in the U.S. state. Four of which are for poker, three are for slots, and the other three are for table games. License for each certificate costs $10 million.
